Becoming a driving instructor is far from being easy and we will not begin to tell you different. Of course it's hard but isn't everything worth while hard? It can be very costly if you ring the wrong company but luckily for you as you are reading this you are on the right track.

Your training consists of three parts

 

Part 1

This is your theory test. This exam consists of 100 multiple choice questions on road procedures, car mechanics, disability and law, instructional techniques, etc. After that there is a hazard perception part of the test. This part 1 is done at home by studying in your own time prior to booking theory test. We recommend you purchase the CD-ROM and learn the theory test at home before applying for your theory test.

Part 2

This is the advanced driving test. You are required to perform 4 manoeuvres and you are examined by a supervising examiner from the driving test centre. Training for this exam is just like taking normal driving lessons which you would have done for your old L test.

Part 3

This is an instructional ability test where you will be tested on your instructional techniques amongst other skills.

It will include an examination by the examiner who will be driving the car. There are 10 pre-set tests, and of which the examiner will pick 1 at random and test your ability to instruct. Training for this exam is done on a one-to-one basis with OUR GRADE 6 training instructor and usually done in your own car normally in a 90min to 2 hour lesson. So you have passed your parts 1 and 2, and you are now legally allowed to teach learner drivers and earn and excellent living too. All which is left to do is apply for you Trainee Instructors License. Teaching learners gives you excellent practice for your PART 3 exam.
